Spotify has launched a new interactive site called In Focus, aimed at helping artists navigate a career in the music industry.

The platform, which launched on Wednesday (1 June), is described as “an artist manager in your pocket that arms you with the tools and guidance you need to nail each of your career goals.”

Whether you are an emerging artist or an established act, In Focus offers tools, resources and tips in 21 focus areas across five career categories: Create, Promote, Connect, Earn and Learn. According to Spotify, the focus areas were chosen after “thousands of points of feedback” the company received via artist engagement on social media, its help centre, and one-on-one conversations.

Drilling down into each area opens a wide range of relevant tools, resources and tips from the Spotify for Artists team, industry experts, and artists like Olivia Rodrigo, A$AP Ferg, Phoebe Bridgers, and more. Resources on the portal will also be updated regularly to keep things fresh.

The site is presented in a choose-your-own-adventure format — simply click into the topic of your interest to access the relevant resources that will help you achieve your goals.

Some of the topics include ways to create new revenue streams, growing an audience base, improving one’s songwriting and production chops as well as brand-building. Clicking on one of these tabs brings you into a page with tools like videos, articles, podcasts and tutorials that you can look through. Kinda like a Coursera course, but for musicians.

Rob Fink, a senior brand marketing manager at Spotify for Artists, said in a statement: “We get it, the music industry today is complex — requiring artists and their teams to take on more responsibility than ever before.”

“We’re always chatting with artists about the biggest questions and aspirations they have in their personal career journeys, and we designed In Focus as a direct result of that feedback. We want to remove the guesswork, and help artists focus on what matters most to them so they can reach their music goals.”
